THE SHORT VERSION
Puffs & Petals is a Manchester floral design studio built on one quietly audacious idea: you don't choose flowers, you choose a colour. Each arrangement is composed around a curated palette, numbered like paint and delivered in a tin. Founded by husbands-to-be Nathan and Toby, the studio brings colour, camp and a little well-dressed mischief to doorsteps across Manchester. Ordinary was never the brief.
PUFFS AND PETALS FLORAL DESIGN STUDIO
Your gran's florist is lovely. This isn't that.
Puffs & Petals: a Manchester floral studio built on one quietly audacious idea - you don't choose flowers, you choose a colour, just like paint. Arrangements are composed around curated palettes, numbered like paint, delivered in a tin. Flowers are what arrives. They're not what you're buying.
The shades carry the whole personality. Villain Era, a green for anyone entering theirs on purpose. The People's Princess, purple and a little heartbroken. Discothèque. Golden Hour. Each one comes with a story - pop culture, queer history, a colour that spent centuries being misunderstood - worn lightly, never explained to death. If you know, you know. Or, just like paint names, they can mean absolutely nothing.
Behind it: Nathan and Toby, husbands-to-be and business partners. Creativity was always the thread. Flowers were the plot twist . The Joseph Massie school of floristry did the rest - fuelled by equal parts obnoxious desire and gay audacity.
"We wanted to build something of our own. Something to share, something beautiful, something that grabbed you by the collar".
Ordinary was never the brief.
"New to this? Entirely. But the arrangements speak for themselves - loudly. And we think we're pretty damn good at it".
Proudly queer-owned, unmistakably Manchester.
Colour, camp, and a little well-dressed mischief, to a door near you.
We don't sell flowers. We sell colour. Mood. Joy. Creativity. And a whole lot of personality.
In person for the first time at First Street's Makers Market, 15th August.

Q&A
Colour instead of flowers - where did that idea come from?
Most people freeze when you ask what flowers they want. Nobody freezes when you ask what colour they love. We flipped the order - you bring the feeling, we bring the botany.
How does it actually work?
You choose a shade from the collection. We compose the arrangement around it — seasonal stems, our call on what's best that week - and it arrives in a tin, numbered like paint. The palette stays constant; the flowers change with what's good.
The shade names are doing a lot. Talk us through one. Take Villain Era - green.
Villains in film are almost always marked by green: the light, the smoke, the glow under the face. It's a colour that's been typecast for centuries. We thought that was the best role in the building, so we made an arrangement out of it. Every shade has a thread like that.
A tin? Who wants a paint pot sitting in their house?
If that was your first thought - you're not our customer. People collect trinkets, ornaments, all sorts of beautiful clutter to put on display. We just made the paint pot chic. And we built it to last: lacquered, waterproof, finished with a waterproof vinyl label, and it comes with a lid. When the flowers are done, the tin isn't - it's a vessel. A plant pot on the bookshelf, a home for your kitchen utensils, storage with a lid on, whatever you like. It's yours. Do as you please.
Why "Puffs & Petals"?
We wanted a name that was loud and proud - something that stood out in an industry full of soft, samey florist names. "Puff" was never meant kindly. But in the right context, it's beautiful. So we reclaimed it, and we own it. We've always wanted this for ourselves - but only if we could do it differently to everything else out there. The name tells you exactly who we are before you've seen a single stem.
What's next, beyond launch?
This is just the beginning. Between us we've got experience in events and weddings, and a genuine love of creating something people remember. And we've got big plans for a store you've never seen the likes of - think the paint aisle, reimagined as a florist. Launch is the front door; behind it, we're building toward the events, the weddings, the moments people keep photos of for years. We're here to make our mark, not just a bouquet.
